Just Going to Write More

Personal

2 minutes

It’s been quite the seven-and-a-half months for me personally. Lots of ups and downs, lessons learned, and introspection. One of those “if you know, you know” kind of things, but I’m sure I’ll spill the beans on part of 2024 at some point.

Long story short, I want to start writing more. I’m thankful to my past self for setting up a platform on which I can do that. One of the things that I have learned about myself this year is that I tend to undervalue my opinions and ideas, relative to other people (and their valuation of their own ideas and opinions). This isn’t super surprising, since I generally loathe self-importance as a quality in people. Additionally, I find that a lot of the world today is just focused on making ““content”” for whatever platform; the result of this is just a general cacophony of BS, in my opinion. Of course some of this content is great, and I think that the Internet is a great proliferator of “there is more content about things I care about”, just because there is now an avenue to cheaply and easily put that information out into the public domain.

Some things I have been thinking about more generally:

  • I believe that writing has helped me (in my personal life) in putting words to feelings and thoughts
  • Putting words to feelings and thoughts helps to a) communicate and b) think deeper about them

So, while some of the words that I write may be contributing to a cacophony of self-important BS, some may have some use to my future self or to someone else. I’ve found that just thinking about something in order to put it into words (and then writing down those words) has helped “clear my head”. My hope is that formalizing and publishing some of the writings can potentially provide some (?) other benefit(s).

I’ll probably shy away from the “you should do X” type of stuff; in this year of self-growth I have realized that different people need and react well to completely different things. I just want to put my thoughts out there. Part of this is a realization that ideas are sharpened through publishing them, and another part is a self-realization that I tend to be risk-averse about sharing my ideas. Risk-averse no more!

I will try to include contact information on most of my posts, but you can also go to the about page. Would love to hear from you.
